PC Users:
- Must have Mozilla/Firefox, Netscape, or IE (Internet Explorer
- Must have Windows Media 9 or newer installed (probably already done if you're using a PC).
- Pop-Up blocker for this server should be disabled. Disable only for mediast.infohio.org and mediadl.infohio.org. This is not a requirement; however, if you find the videos do not display at all and you do not see error messages, your browser has likely blocked the videos from playing. If this happens, turn off the popup blocker you're using.
MAC Users:
- MAC users should download and install Flip4MAC. This software is recommended by Microsoft to handle streaming content from Microsoft media servers. Other options are available, but INFOhio recommends using Flip4MAC, which is FREE software. Flip4MAC works with any browser.
or, you can try one of the following:
- You may use the following browsers: , Mozilla/Firefox, Netscape. We do not recommend using IE as Microsoft has dropped support for IE on the MAC. If you choose to use IE, you will need Windows Media 9 for MAC. Microsoft is no longer supporting IE. INFOhio Tech Services does not offer support for IE on the MAC.
- You may use Windows Media Player from Microsoft, but only Netscape and Mozilla/Firefox will support it.
- If you're using Safari, you will need to use the Quicktime WMV Component to view the streaming videos. You will also need a WMV plug-in that installs as part of QuickTime so you can fiew Windows Media Files. All of this software is free.
- Once you have Quicktime installed and you've installed Microsoft's WMV plug-in for Quicktime (Flip4mac), you will be able to view streaming videos as well as download them.
Below are the files you will need to view the streaming videos.
Network Settings & Troubleshooting
- Most times, streaming problems are caused by network firewalls. If you are unable to stream videos, check with your networking people to ensure port 554 is open for both UDP and TCP, both directions. If you still experience streaming problems, you may also need to open port 1755.
- In Windows Media Player, go to the Tools Menu, Select Options and then click the Network Tab. Verify the following:
- HTTP Protocol should be checked and should be configured to use the browser's proxy server
- Uncheck the UDP/RTSP option
- Check the Multicast Streaming Option
- Because networks vary, the settings in your Windows Media Player may be different than those mentioned above. Speak with your networking people to see which options will work best for your network. INFOhio has designed the Media Server software to support the most common streaming and download ports/methods.
As always, if you have any technical difficulties, please contact your school district technical department or contat INFOhio Technical Services for more information.
Thank You.
